Welcome to our New Officers for 2003-2005
Ashley Tanner, Treasurer; Susan Mathias, Vice President; Suzanne Daly, President Not Pictured: Carol Angstadt, Secretary
Letter of IntentDoll Doctors' Association was conceived by a few doll doctors attending the Bellman Eastern International Doll and Toy Show in the village of Gaithersburg, Maryland, U.S.A. Today, the Association represents about one hundred and fifty doll doctors including international members. The Association mails three newsletters a year called DOLL RX. This newsletter is by, for, and about doll doctoring. This is the only existing specialized publication of its type. Each issue contains technique, tool talk, philosophy and human interest submitted by the membership. Very little editing is done. We encourage differing opinions. The editor/treasurer is responsible for compiling and mailing each issue. We present a nice certificate to all who contribute an article for DOLL RX. To this date, our organization has steadily grown each year. Pennsylvania has formed the first state chapter of the Doll Doctor's Association. In 1998 more than twenty percent of the membership competed in our first doll restoration contest. This activity is being repeated in the year 2000. National recognition ribbons and other prizes will be won by the entering doll doctors. The judges for our first contest were Jan Foulke, editor of the Blue Book and Linda Kellerman, national advertiser, published writer, and doll dealer. Anyone interested in doll restoration may join for any reason. Our primary goal is to help members grow by reading and association. One of our members has professed, "In a few years, we will not discuss if an doll has been restored. The discussion will be about how nicely restoration has been done and by whom". DDA acknowledges that growth and difference in skill level are both related to individual artistic ability and personal philosophy. DDA exists to help all who desire to share the available specialized knowledge and opinions. Many have improved their doll doctoring skills by joining. STATE CHAPTERS FORMING State Chapters are forming throughout the country and we see this growth as a positive incentive for members to meet several times a year within their state, to share ideas and to enjoy the friendship of other doll doctors. State chapters are established in Pennsylvania ,Texas, Michigan, California, and Illinois. Look for more information on other chapters as they develop within the next year. If you are a member of the DDA and wish to form a state chapter, please contact DDA Chapter Coach, Dwaine Gipe at dolldoc4@suscom.net
